Cracked China Deviled Eggs #LiteraryTeaPartyTime #CookingwithKids

When the author posted in a group to which I belong, and invited us create one of three recipes, I was immediately intrigued by her Cracked China Deviled Eggs recipe. And I knew it would be the perfect 'no cook' recipe for a kids' cooking class that I was teaching at a local children's museum. I love when things like this align. The book is not yet released, but it will be available on June 5th. I've pre-ordered mine already!

You can see her recipe below. I didn't change a thing. It was perfect as written. But, when I described the eggs to my family (who are on a school trip), they insisted that I make a batch for them, too.

So, not only is this recipe terrific as written, I made it twice in one day. If that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is! On second thought: I did change one thing. We didn't pipe the filling back into the eggs; we just spooned it in.



You can read Alison's instructions for details, but basically...you boil and dye the eggs.

  

You peel and slice them.


You create the filling and stuff it back into the eggs.


These were the eggs from my class. The kids did a wonderful job and the museum staff even kept the leftovers in their break room for nibbles throughout the day.


And these were the eggs for my family. They will be so excited when they get home.

Quick Pickled Red Onions and Radishes

If you've been reading my blog for even a short amount of time, you probably know how much I love to pickle things. I was just telling a friend you can pickle - with vinegar - or you can ferment - with salt - for similar delicious effect. The latter has digestive benefits and I love to do that, but when I need that pop of sour flavor quickly, I whip up quick pickles that are ready in as little as a day or two. I've Pickled Blueberries , Pickled Asparagus , Pickled Cranberries , Pickled Pumpkin , and even Pickled Chard Stems ! This I did last night for an upcoming recipe challenge that requires I include radishes. Ummmm...of course I'm pickling them! Ingredients  makes 1 quart jar radishes, trimmed and sliced organic red onions, peeled and thinly sliced (I used a mandolin slicer) 3/4 C vinegar (I used white distilled vinegar) 3/4 C water 3 T organic granulated sugar 1 T salt (I used some grey sea salt) 6 to 8 grinds of black pepper Proce
